Participating in counseling undoubtedly involves a financial,
psychological and emotional, and time commitment to increase the
likelihood of reaching your goals. As the decision to engage in therapy is
ultimately my client’s, so too is how one pays for it. My private practice
fees begin at $150 for the initial consultation and $125 per session
thereafter. The benefits of paying out of pocket consist of flexibility
of treatment and confidentiality of my clients. Clients have unlimited
number of sessions, freedom to see whomever they choose and participate in
whatever treatment type they prefer, and freedom in modality (i.e. being
seen as an individual, couple, family or group). Regarding
confidentiality, paying out of pocket ensures that information about my
client’s mental and emotional health will not be shared without prior
consent nor will a diagnosis be required for treatment (as in the case of
using health insurance). For those unable to meet the aforementioned
financial obligations and prefer to not use their health insurance, I
would be happy to discuss alternative options.
For those clients hoping to utilize the financial benefits of health
insurance, I am currently accepting clients covered by Blue Shield, Aetna,
and CHAMPVA. For those covered by another health care provider, I am happy
to provide you with a receipt of payment for you to seek reimbursement
from your insurance company. I encourage all prospective clients (regardless of your insurance
carrier) to contact your insurance company and verify the following:
- Are mental health services covered by my current policy?
- What is my mental health deductible and has it already been met?
- How many visits with a psychotherapist am I (or my child) allowed?
- If I choose to work with someone out of network, what does my plan cover
(usually given as a percentage rate)?
- Do I need prior approval to see an out of network clinician?
- How do I submit a mental health claim for an out of network provider for
reimbursement?
If you have any questions regarding the payment policies or need
clarification, feel free to contact me anytime.
